Definition of Audit:
If things don.t add up, or the IRS suspects your return is not .kosher., they will perform a detailed examination and verification of your return (or other taxable transaction). An audit can occur either as an office audit (takes place in the IRS agent.s office) or a field audit (takes place at your place of business or in the office of your tax representative).
